SUMMER 2020-FALL 2020

NUCLEAR SITES RESEARCH INTERN WITH THE GLOBAL DECOLONIZATION INITIATIVE

The Global Decolonization Initiative (GloDec) at the BU Pardee School brings together undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, and faculty to develop an intellectual community passionate about understanding the ongoing processes of decolonization through studying borders, borderlands, partitions, identities, race, citizenship, and political violence.

Throughout Summer and Fall of 2020, I researched how nuclear sites affect the populations located near them. My case studies focused on the Mayak Production Association Plant near Ozyorsk, Russia, and the Navajo Nation in the southwestern United States. By the end of 2020, I wrote two 4,000-word studies analyzing the forms of social, legal, and political disenfranchisement surrounding these sites and harming Navajo Nation and Ozyorsk residents. The Nuclear Sites Project strives to create a database on these and other nuclear sites to be used in future research and teaching.

I interned for the 100% Renewable Energy Campaign in Spring 2019, where I grew in several skills such as advocating for policy issues I'm passionate about, journalistic writing, and phone banking. During my time at Environment America, I wrote a press release, several emails, and some blog posts for the campaign.
